With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, you may be finding yourself searching for a fun and unique DIY Valentine printable- one that not only your kiddo will love, but their classmates as well.
Each and every year I strive to find a unique idea that requires little time and little cost, but results in a big smile on my child’s face. (For a look at DIY Valentines from years past, click here.)
Due to a love of chapstick and lip balm (girl mama over here), I figured a lip balm Valentine would be the perfect solution for both girls and boys. After some quick designing, printing, and assembling; the end result was one my child loved, and I’m confident yours will too!

Why a Lip Balm Valentine?
Along with my child’s love for lip balm, a lip balm valentine checked all of my DIY valentine checkboxes.
Each year, my goal for a toy/item are as follows:
- Safe– not a choking hazard, for both the classmates and their potential younger siblings.
- Durable– not something that would fall apart within seconds and end up in the trash can less than 24 hours later.
- Engaging– something that was be exciting for the children to receive (and also rather self-explanatory).
- Inexpensive– something that I could buy in bulk.
- Unique– something that may not easily be repeated by all her other classmates.
How to Make Your Very Own Lip Balm Valentine
Ready to make your own? Follow the easy steps below!
-
- After coming up with your needed number of Valentine’s Day cards, start by ordering the perfect chapsticks/lip balms. Wanting to stick to a fun valentine color scheme, I stocked up on bulk chapsticks I found here. However, as any parent can attest to, kids care far more about fictional characters than they do color schemes ;). After strolling down a Walmart aisle resulted in my daughter spotting a collection of Paw Patrol chapsticks, there was a rather quick change of plans. Paw Patrol chapsticks it was! (Truth be told, I think these will likely be a larger hit with her 4K classmates anyway).

…
… - Print as many as desired. The printables I have designed include 6 cards per sheet of paper and are predominately white to limit the amount of ink necessary to print. Furthermore, they read, “You’re the balm! Happy Valentine’s Day” and include 6 relatively different designs. I chose to leave the back completely blank for your child to sign their name and write a personalized message. Note: You can opt to mat the printables on colored paper for a fun and thickening effect (this is the bright colored pack I’d recommend to match the colorful lipbalms). However, if you choose to avoid this step, then I’d recommend printing on a heavier white cardstock to withhold the weight of the attached chapstick/lip balm and avoid tearing (this is what I opted to do).
… - Lastly, allow your child to write his/her name on the back of each card before attaching the chapsticks/lip balms.
…
5. Use washi tape to secure the chapsticks firmly to the valentine printable. I adore this large assortment of colors to match the chapsticks/lip balms. Or if you wish to replicate my exact look above, you can find the glittered gold washi tape here.
