I love to not only simplify everyday life, but also to personalize whenever possible. This is why when it came time to decorate our bar area… I knew I wanted to create a personalized chalkboard menu! This look allowed me to stick to my rustic theme, while also incorporating practicality into my overall design.
Think back to the last event you hosted… particularly one where you served a variety of beverages! How many times did you repeat the beverage menu to your guests? By incorporating your chalkboard menu into your wall decor, you can designate less time to playing bartender and more time to visiting with loved ones!
This idea doubles as a fun kitchen idea! Change headers to “appetizers”, “entrees” and “desserts” to use daily!
CREATE THIS CHALKBOARD MENU LOOK FOR YOURSELF:
- Locate a chalkboard. Try one that effectively complements your overall design theme. Bonus points for a rectangle chalkboard that lends itself perfectly for a list format. (My favorite one can be found here.)
. - Determine your design tool.  A chalk marker (which can be erased and written time and time again- this is my favorite set) or a white paint marker (note: this is permanent on your chalkboard but is nice because then you can easily wipe away the temporary chalk when writing your menu without having to avoid your more detailed design- this is my favorite one.)
. - Draw your design. I chose to create “beer” and “wine” headers as this is what is most commonly served at our events. However, be sure and personalize this to your liking! Tip: if you went for the paint marker… be sure and create a rough sketch on paper prior to designing the real deal. Allow time for the paint marker to effectively dry before using.
.
NOTE: Years ago, one of my best friends showed me her amazing method of writing on chalkboards in beautiful fonts. When you find the font design you like (I do all my custom design work via PicMonkey), you then print it out. Flipping the design over you cover the back of the paper (opposite side of font) with white chalk. Then, place the printed out sign on your chalkboard and taking a pencil trace on top of the printed words in an outline pattern of each letter. Next, you will remove the sheet of paper and see a faint chalk outline on the chalkboard. Now it is time to finalize your design by taking either your chalk marker or paint pen and tracing. That’s it! Couldn’t be easier or more effective!
. - Hang and use your chalkboard menu!
And just like that your chalkboard menu home decor is not only stylish, but practical too!

So cute! I wish I could write on a chalkboard with such neat, artistic lettering. This would be a great conversation starter over the bar in your den or entertainment area.

Such a fun sign! I can’t draw on vertical surfaces at all, so the best I can do is just sit back and appreciate, but I definitely think your sign is gorgeous. Thanks for sharing at the #happynowlinkup!

What a cute idea. I can definitely see having this in my home to let everyone know what’s on the menu for the day instead of having them ask me over and over again. Pinning.

That is a wonderful idea! If you create it, please send pics!
